We’re proud to announce that Smartbell has signed on as a signatory of the GB Calf Strategy 2025–2030.
Led by Ruminant Health and Welfare, with support from the AHDB, the GB Calf Strategy is an industry-wide initiative with a clear and ambitious mission: to ensure that every calf reared in the UK is as healthy, happy, and productive as possible.
It’s a goal that aligns with the heart of everything we do at Smartbell.
The strategy is built around three key objectives:

GOAL: Ensuring that information is available to support farmers in making proactive breeding decisions across both dairy and beef calf supply chains.

GOAL: Making standardised, evidence-based guidance available to calf rearers, and recognising the true value of skilled stockmanship.

GOAL: Developing bio-secure, traceable routes to market, and promoting the health and sustainability data that underpin a fit-for-purpose UK calf supply chain.

Across all three pillars, the strategy’s wider aims, improving animal wellbeing alongside efficiency, productivity, and outcomes for farmers, align directly with the goals we’ve built into WellCalf from day one.
Over the next few posts, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Right Start and Right Route objectives, and sharing exactly how we WellCalf can contribute to each. Watch this space.
